A five-truck MixPilot™ trial is expanding to Viola’s full 83-vehicle fleet as the 40-year-old producer moves to give its quality control team real-time visibility from plant to pour.
Giatec®, a global leader in digital concrete technology platforms, today announced a new partnership with Viola Ready Mix Inc., the operator of the largest concrete batching plant in Canada, to deploy its MixPilot fleet monitoring platform across Viola’s entire 83-vehicle ready-mix fleet serving the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA). The rollout follows a successful five-truck pilot and builds toward full fleet visibility for Viola’s high-spec municipal, residential, and industrial, commercial, and institutional (ICI) work.
As part of their commitment to Giatec’s platform vision, Viola has also selected Giatec SmartMix™ as the AI-powered quality control software for its mix catalogue, a decision that will help modernize quality control across its plants in Markham, Brampton, North York, and Milton.
Viola Ready Mix operates the largest concrete batching plant in Canada at its flagship Markham location, alongside plants in Brampton, North York, and Milton. Built over more than 40 years into one of the largest independent ready-mix producers in the GTHA, the family-owned company supplies municipal, residential, and ICI projects across one of the busiest concrete markets in the country. As Viola has grown, so has the complexity of coordinating mix quality and dosage decisions across multiple sites and a large, active fleet. Its QC team previously relied on legacy quality control software and manual spreadsheets, a setup that made it difficult to track mix changes across plants or monitor water addition and slump behavior once trucks left the yard.
During the MixPilot trial, Viola’s team saw consistent, accurate temperature and slump readings across the five trial vehicles, giving the QC team a clearer picture of driver water usage and customer pouring habits on site, including cases where customers requested unusually high slump concrete outside the target range. Early work with SmartMix has also simplified how the team pushes mix updates and manages submittal information, replacing a process the team had found slow and difficult to navigate.
