PCL Partners With Ottawa-Based Concrete Testing and Sensor Firm Giatec

PCL Construction is adding another facet to its evolving software platform.

The contractor announced a new partnership with technology firm Giatec Scientific Inc. Sept. 17 . PCL plans to integrate the Ottawa-based company’s concrete sensor technology into its single-pane software package, known as Jobsite Insights.

“The integration of Giatec’s technology adds yet another field driven need around concrete testing, real time data collection, and data driven decision making, fully enabling smart construction and making it a reality for the industry.” Mark Bryant, PCL’s CIO, said in a release.

“The technology ecosystem of today needs to be enabled through smart partnerships, smart platforms, and smart technologies that can drive immediate value and efficiency at the workface of construction,” Bryant added.

PCL noted it recently used Giatec’s SmartRock® sensor technology for measuring concrete maturity in work on the Ice District, a sprawling mixed-use project in Edmonton.

Optimizing the Planning of Your Mass Concrete Pour with Thermal Modeling, a Feature of the Giatec 360 Platform

Giatec’s Thermal Modeling feature on the Giatec 360 platform was developed to help predict the maximum concrete temperature and temperature differential of mass concrete. Thermal Modeling is a comprehensive solution for engineers, general contractors, and ready-mix producers. The feature allows users with mass concrete elements to experiment with different inputs and produce forecast scenarios outlining the anticipated behavior of the concrete temperature at various depths. User-friendly and intuitive, it was built with customers in mind and intended to work independently of SmartRock sensors. Thermal Modeling requires…
