Dr. Ghods has more than 15 years of experience working in several civil engineering projects related to inspection and condition assessment of reinforced concrete structures including bridges. He has extensive knowledge of concrete industry and has developed a strong network through interactions with the leaders in the construction industry. Dr. Ghods’s unique expertise on the corrosion of steel is utilized at the heart of Giatec’s technologies. He is a recipient of several prestigious awards including 2011 OCRI Student Entrepreneur of the Year Award for his work at Giatec, Morris Cohen Graduate Student Award of the Electrochemical Society (ECS) Corrosion Division, NSERC Post-Doctoral Fellowship, and National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE) Foundation Academic Award and has more than 50 peer-reviewed publications.
Dr. Alizadeh has over fifteen years of experience in the development and commercialization of technologies related to concrete materials. He brings a unique expertise on the durability of concrete tackled at the nano-level particularly related to infrastructure exposed to harsh environmental conditions that awarded him the Governor General's Academic Gold Medal. Prior to co-founding Giatec, he co-established Construction Materials Institute (now operating with about 30 employees) to provide knowledge-based services to the construction industry.
Mustafa Salehi has more than ten years of experience in the design and development of electronic systems, devices and sensors for concrete testing. His previous industry experience includes analog and digital circuits design. He has extensive background in micro-controller/processor programming as well as CPLD/FPGA based system design. He has designed and developed several electronic instruments for testing and measuring corrosion in reinforced concrete structures.
Director of Business Development
Vic Perry is the former Vice-President and General Manager of Ductal Lafarge North America in Calgary. Over a 30-year career, Vic has worked as a structural engineer, field engineer, manager and senior executive within the consulting and industrial sectors. He has admirably served organizations such as the Canadian Portland Cement Association, Dalhousie University and Lafarge Canada, as well as Canada’s technical societies and regulatory bodies such as the CSCE where he served as its national President, the EIC, PEO, APENS and APEGA.
Debbie Weinstein has an equity stake in the company, meets and advices the management team on a monthly basis. Debbie is ranked as one of Canada’s Top Mergers and Acquisitions Lawyers in a survey conducted by Financial Post. American Lawyer named Debbie one of Canada’s Leading 500 Lawyers. She has also be named one of Canada’s Top 100 Women Entrepreneurs by PROFIT and Chatelaine magazines and one of Canada’s Top 25 Women Lawyers by Lexpert. Debbie is well respected, has grown a number of start-ups in the Ottawa community and brings a large network of contacts in all sectors to the company.
Jeff Westeinde co-founded and is the President of Quantum Environmental Group, a national full service environmental remediation and hazardous waste contracting company. The Quantum Group was named one of Canada’s fastest growing companies in 2000 by Profit magazine. Jeff is also a partner in the Windmill Development Group – a company focused on bringing into commercial application green building practices. He was named Ernst & Young’s 2001 Entrepreneur of the Year for British Columbia in the business to business category and was recognized as one of Canada’s “Top 40 Under 40″ by the Globe and Mail’s Report on Business Magazine in 2003.
John Fielding is the Regional Director of Business Development for Eastern and Northern Ontario at OCE. John heads a team of Business Development Managers responsible for industry and academic engagement, support for the RICs, and OCE program delivery. John has experience in the high tech industry with Nortel, Mitel and Bookham Technology. He held senior management positions dealing with strategic relationships and mergers and acquisitions ranging from less than 100 persons several billion dollar investments.
