Pouria Ghods is a professional entrepreneur and experienced leader with a demonstrated history of working in the concrete industry for the application of smart concrete testing technologies. He has more than 20 years of experience in civil engineering practices related to Concrete Materials Science, Corrosion Engineering, and Non-destructive Testing. He has extensive knowledge of the concrete industry and has developed a strong network through interactions with the leaders in the construction industry. After completing his PhD in Civil Engineering at Carleton University and NSERC Postdoctoral Fellowship in Materials Engineering at The University of British Columbia, he co-founded Giatec Scientific Inc. in 2010 to revolutionize the concrete industry by leveraging emerging technologies such as; Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Internet of Things (IoT), including; wireless concrete sensors, mobile apps, and advanced non-destructive technologies (NDT) to drive excellent quality throughout concrete’s lifecycle and reduce concrete’s carbon footprint Prior to co-founding Giatec, he co-established Construction Materials Institute at the University of Tehran to provide knowledge-based services to the construction industry.
He is a recipient of numerous prestigious awards including the 2018 Forty Under 40, 2012 Ottawa’s 100 Rising Stars and 2011 OCRI Student Entrepreneur of the Year Award for his work at Giatec as well as Morris Cohen Award of the Electrochemical Society (ECS) Corrosion Division, NSERC Post-Doctoral Fellowship, and National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE) Foundation Academic Award for his academic achievements. Over the course of his career, he has accumulated more than 90 peer-reviewed publications and 23 patents.
