Giatec’s AI and IoT-powered concrete technologies on Microsoft Azure are boosting efficiency and cutting emissions across the global construction industry.

Ottawa, Canada – Giatec, global leader in digital concrete technology platforms, is proud to announce its feature in a new Microsoft customer story highlighting how Giatec is transforming one of the world’s most carbon-intensive industries through artificial intelligence and IoT innovation.

Concrete production accounts for nearly 8% of global CO₂ emissions. Recognizing this challenge, Giatec has built a suite of smart technologies, including its AI engine, Roxi™SmartRock® wireless concrete sensors, SmartMix™ mix-optimization software, and MixPilot™ in-transit sensors. Designed to maximize savings, reduce waste, and significantly cut carbon output across the concrete lifecycle, Giatec’s solutions have already reduced 2.5 million tons of carbon emissions, helped contractors save up to $10,000 per pour, and increased concrete producers’ profit margins by 50–100%.

“Giatec’s AI‑powered platform shows that progress on sustainability and business performance can go hand in hand,” said Kathleen Mitford, CVP, Global Industry Marketing, Microsoft. “Built on Microsoft Azure, it helps turn real‑time data into smarter decisions that reduce waste, lower emissions, and improve operational efficiency—enabling the concrete industry to build more responsibly at global scale.”

To achieve these results at scale, Giatec leverages the benefits of Azure IoT Hub for real-time data collection, Azure Databricks for large-scale analytics, Azure OpenAI and Azure Document Intelligence for automated reporting, and Power BI for customer insights. Powered by Microsoft Azure, Giatec’s intelligent platform is now one of the most advanced in the industry.

“We started Giatec with the vision to revolutionize the concrete industry,” says Aali R. Alizadeh, CTO and Co-founder of Giatec. “To bring easy-to-use software and sensors so that all the stakeholders throughout the lifecycle of concrete can benefit from and improve the productivity, efficiency, safety, and durability in construction projects.”

As Giatec looks to expand globally, its founding mission remains front and center. “We’re leading a digital revolution in the concrete industry,” Aali says. “We’re excited to work with Microsoft and get our products to market in a scalable way. Working with a collaborator that has a global footprint and a lot of experience in scaling similar solutions is hugely advantageous for us.”
