Sarah De Carufel, R&D Engineering Associate at Giatec

As an R&D Engineering Associate for Giatec Scientific, Sarah De Carufel utilizes her civil-engineering background to assist in the development of innovative products. Her paper based on her thesis, Effect of High-Performance Steel Materials on the Blast Behaviour of Ultra-High Performance Concrete Columns, won the award for Best Paper at the 2016 First International Interactive Symposium on UHPC.

Sarah's work during her time as a Research Assistant at the University of Ottawa involved the design, construction, casting, testing, and analysis of columns, beams, and slabs under static and blast loads. This research focused on the properties and behavior of high-performance materials—such as steel fiber reinforced concrete, ultra-high performance fiber reinforced concrete, and high-performance steel materials—under blast.
